Taking l-arginine an hour or two before aerobic exercise may be an effective way of lowering blood pressure. The exercise and arginine in your bloodstream will help relax and widen ("vasodilate") your blood vessels and lower high blood pressure for a while. Blood pressure will be lowered for perhaps a couple of days. So you need to keep this up. Exercise at least three times a week, and with the arginine supplementation, your blood pressure will be lowered naturally (at least more naturally than a pharmaceutical drug.) The dose of arginine required is half a gram for every 10kg of body weight. Take your weight in kilograms, divide by ten. Then multiply the result by 0.5 and you should get your dosage. Which will be around 3-4 grams for most people. This formula has been quoted in the scientific literature, for what I'm not exactly sure, but the formula works. And it's been used by at least two holistic-approach sources.

I calculated 4g was my optimal dose of arginine before I came across this formula, which just verified mathematically my personal results. As with any supplement, there is always the danger and side effect of overdosing, so taking just the minimum arginine you need for the BP lowering effect.

If you'd like to lower your BP beyond what arginine can deliver, try other supplements. The cause of high BP is probably "multifactorial", meaning there are several reasons that contribute to high BP. Each cause may respond best to a different supplement, so a bit of trial and error may be needed. Some supplements may "fight" each other, so just be careful here.

Why isn't the BP lowering effects of arginine combined with exercise more widely known? Arginine is cheap. And can't be patented by big the big drug companies. Perhaps this is one possible reason.

Thanks for reading, and good luck with your health.

L-Arginine Benefits For Bodybuilding?

L-Arginine supplements have been very popular in the bodybuilding world over the past 10-15 years and are typically found in pre-workout formulas or consumed on their own. Supposed l-arginine benefits range from increased nitric oxide production to improved growth hormone output to "perpetual pumps" that you'll carry with you all throughout the day.

But are these l-arginine benefits backed by science? Does l-arginine work, and does it really make you bigger like all the crazy supplement ads say?

My L-Arginine Review:

In reality, not a single shred of actual research exists that shows these supposed benefits of l-arginine to hold up in the real world, and my suggestion is to save your hard-earned money and spend it elsewhere.

The reason for this is simple…

In order for nitric oxide to be produced in the body, you need both the enzyme ("eNOS") and the substrate (l-arginine). It is the reaction between these two that produces N02. However, in healthy people, it is eNOS that is the limiting factor in nitric oxide production and NOT l-arginine. So, consuming l-arginine supplements and adding more into the bloodstream does not increase nitric oxide, since the body already has plenty for this purpose and would actually need more eNOS for this to occur. In other words, trying to use l-arginine for pump increases is totally useless.

On top of this, there is no research that demonstrates any relationship between l-arginine powder and HGH (human growth hormone) increases to a level that would actually positively affect muscle growth or performance.

At the end of the day, the benefits of l-arginine are a total exaggeration and come down to nothing more than basic marketing hype. Don't bother using l-arginine pre-workout or at any other time for that matter, as it's almost certainly doing nothing except draining your wallet.

I hope you found this l-arginine review useful.
