L-Arginine Benefits For Bodybuilding?

L-Arginine supplements have been very popular in the bodybuilding world over the past 10-15 years and are typically found in pre-workout formulas or consumed on their own. Supposed l-arginine benefits range from increased nitric oxide production to improved growth hormone output to "perpetual pumps" that you'll carry with you all throughout the day.

But are these l-arginine benefits backed by science? Does l-arginine work, and does it really make you bigger like all the crazy supplement ads say?

My L-Arginine Review:

In reality, not a single shred of actual research exists that shows these supposed benefits of l-arginine to hold up in the real world, and my suggestion is to save your hard-earned money and spend it elsewhere.

The reason for this is simple…

In order for nitric oxide to be produced in the body, you need both the enzyme ("eNOS") and the substrate (l-arginine). It is the reaction between these two that produces N02. However, in healthy people, it is eNOS that is the limiting factor in nitric oxide production and NOT l-arginine. So, consuming l-arginine supplements and adding more into the bloodstream does not increase nitric oxide, since the body already has plenty for this purpose and would actually need more eNOS for this to occur. In other words, trying to use l-arginine for pump increases is totally useless.

On top of this, there is no research that demonstrates any relationship between l-arginine powder and HGH (human growth hormone) increases to a level that would actually positively affect muscle growth or performance.

At the end of the day, the benefits of l-arginine are a total exaggeration and come down to nothing more than basic marketing hype. Don't bother using l-arginine pre-workout or at any other time for that matter, as it's almost certainly doing nothing except draining your wallet.

I hope you found this l-arginine review useful.

  1. I just want some information about arginine.recently I have bought scitec
company’s product mega arginine.the daily recommended dosage written on the
bottle is one capsule per day.But please tell me that how much capsules
should I take in a day.because one capsule contains 1300 mg in it which I
think is a very high dose.please help me to solve the problem.I’ll wait for
    your answer.Thanks

    1. +Kyler Mcguire I believe it should. It increases the longevity of your
workouts especially cardio. You should breath better, and have longer runs,
less tiring and intense. If you tried it and have had any experience with
      it, share it your experience.

    1. +magnumxlpi Not to a degree that is going to have any measurable impact on
body composition. Thank you for your comment though, I appreciate it! 🙂

  2. I feel it when I take a high dosage that my vessels open up so I have no
doubts, others say they feel nothing

  3. I’ve seen numerous results with L-Arginine and have read studies (not paid
for by supplement companies) that will go through the many health benefits
    of the supplement.

  4. is AAKG the same as L-Argenine? do they have the same reactions in the
body? sorry, I’m trying to start my own preworkout stack, and want to get a
little more than your video over the basic stack.

  5. What if you’re complimenting the extra Arginine with a Nitric Oxide
Synthase Dose? I believe it comes in pill form as well

    1. I don’t think the increase would be large enough/sustained for long enough
      to make a difference.
